STATEMENT
BY MINISTER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REDFERN-WATERLOO AUTHORITY, FRANK SARTOR
The State
Government would like to clarify some media reports about the Redfern-Waterloo
Authority, and its 10-year plan to improve the area.
There is a
genuine desire on the Government’s
part to make a positive difference in Redfern-Waterloo. I can assure residents
we respect their right to live in the area.
- There will
be no cuts to the amount of public housing. - Current residents will not be
disadvantaged. - All public tenancies are secure.
Some
preliminary reports have been commissioned on ways to renew public housing in
the area, but no decisions have been made.
There are
no new plans to redevelop any public housing in the short-term.
Any
improvements will only be carried out after extensive consultation.
In fact,
there is no final Redfern-Waterloo Plan, only working documents which outline a
number of options.
When a
draft is completed it will be made public so residents can have their say.
Tenants,
local organisations and service providers will all be consulted before any
plans for the area are pursued. Moreover, in the New Year I will establish a
formal advisory committee and consultation
The
Government will continue to keep you informed about the Authority’s progress.
