The Blacksmiths Shop, known as Wrought Art Works, has been at the
park since its inception and has been responsible for restoring
historic equipment and training apprentices in traditional skills that
are in short supply.
“Wrought Art Works has always been part of the Australian
Technology Park. It makes an important contribution to both our
heritage and to the maintenance and development of traditional skills,”
said Ms Hale.
“The demand by the Redfern Waterloo Authority and the ATP that
Wrought Art Works pay market rates for the space it occupies is nothing
more than a move to shut it down so the ATP can lease the space out for
more money.”
“This is just the latest example of these authorities placing commercial imperatives above all else.”
“Frank Sartor is the Minister for Redfern-Waterloo. He should
intervene to ensure the blacksmiths shop is saved to continue its
important heritage and skills development role,” concluded Ms Hale.
