Cr Moore said that it was the previous government’s lack of infrastructure that left stations like Redfern bursting at the seams and without basic amenities.
“Clearly the most outstanding case of a station needing a lift is Redfern and yet the previous government just failed to fund infrastructure and as a political initiative, they went ahead with Newtown before the last election,” Cr Moore said.
A petition of more than 11,000 signatures demanding lift access at Redfern has already been presented to state parliament, automatically triggering a debate.
If the petition is successful, commuters could have lift access at Redfern in 12 months.
