REDFERN STATION ACCESSIBILITY UPGRADE (S103139)
It is resolved that Council
(i) following a long community campaign, the NSW Minister
for Transport, on 15 August 2013, announced plans to make trains at Redfern
Station accessible to people in wheelchairs and parents with prams for the
first time;(ii) the State Government has issued a tender for a concept
design to provide lift access to one platform at Redfern, allowing customers to
access all Sydney train lines via Central Station;(iii) Redfern Station is one of the busiest stations in the
Sydney network and the lack of wheelchair and pram access has been a pressing
problem for the community for many years; and(iv) the upgrade of the station, which is part of the NSW
State Government’s $770 million Transport Access Program, will deliver tangible
benefits to the local community and economy; and
(B) request the Lord Mayor write to the NSW Minister for
Transport to:
(i) offer congratulations on this vital and long overdue
accessibility upgrade; and(ii) prioritise further accessibility improvements to
Redfern Station within the NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan; and
(C) request the Lord Mayor write to the convenors of Lift
Redfern commending them on their campaign for accessibility improvements to
Redfern Station.
The motion, as varied by consent, was carried unanimously.
