Launching the new offices at Park Centric in
Campbelltown, Mr Della Bosca said the Iemma Government was providing an extra
$3.5 million for group training companies as part of the Learn or Earn skills
package.
“What goes on under this roof will have a very
positive effect on young people,” he said.
“With MG My Gateway being a group training company
you will be a one-stop shop for everything to do with apprenticeships and
traineeships.
“For more than a quarter of a century, group
training companies have provided training and employment opportunities for
young people and this funding will help an extra 1250 apprentices to get jobs
in NSW.”
The company employs 240 apprentices and trainees, and
registers thousands of apprentices a year, chairman Robert Rofe said.
“Here we are now continuing our 26th year to improve
opportunities for young people,” he said.
The business helps apprentices and trainees find jobs
while they are completing their studies.
A significant partnership has been set up between MG
My Gateway and the Redfern Waterloo Authority, training indigenous students in
hospitality.
At the launch of the new offices, guests were served
kangaroo pies, emu and rosemary and salmon tarts, which had been cooked and
served by the trainees.
Camden state MP Geoff Corrigan praised the group’s work and
other group training companies in expanding trade skills and career
opportunities for young people.
“These training opportunities are very valuable in
the south west, particularly in critical skill shortage areas such as metals
and engineering and construction,” Mr Corrigan said.
“Making sure we have enough qualified people –
especially tradespeople – for the right jobs in the right location is an
absolute priority for the Iemma Government.”
