The announcement was made as Planning Minister Frank Sartor officially turned the first sod of
soil, signalling the commencement of construction of the $123 million dollar television
complex.
Global Television CEO, Chris McMillan said, “This is a $60
million dollar commitment by Global Television and we are excited to be part of
Australia’s
largest dedicated television production facility and the growth potential that
it presents”.
Mr. McMillan said, “This complex will create great synergies
in television production. It will be fantastic for our clients allowing us to
distribute their content across all platforms from traditional terrestrial
distribution to streaming via the internet and 3G network. The complex is also
conveniently located near Mascot
Airport and the Sydney
CBD.”
Global Television plan to have one hundred and twenty staff
based at the television complex, with up to 500 freelancers working on studio
projects at various times.
Global Television facilitates over 2,000 hours of television
every year, across all genres including sport, concerts, awards, drama and
reality TV. Some of the key productions include Australian Idol, Dancing with
the Stars, Hi-5, Hi-5 USA, Playhouse Disney, The Biggest Loser Finale and the
Big Night in with John Foreman.
Global Television will occupy 10,000m2 of space, which
includes two state-of the-art studios, production offices and car parking
spaces. Global TV will move into the facility in late 2009.
