Darlinton School Fete

Start: 2011-10-28T23:00:00

End: 2011-10-29T05:00:00

Location: corner of Golden Grove and Abercrombie Sts, Darlington

As
you will be aware, Darlington Public School has played a very significant role
in educating our kids from across community and providing leadership in the
ongoing goal of normalising appropriate curriculum and teaching methods over
many years. Thanks to the work of AECG and community activists many years ago,
Darlo is the only priority Aboriginal School in NSW.

Recently the NSW Government has increased pre-school fees significantly. Unlike
Long Day Care, pre-school fees aren’t eligible for relief. Please see the
article below: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/preschools-fee-rise-to-hurt-families/story-e6freuy9-1226174053302

Quite inexplicable at a time when transition to school programs are being
promoted on the basis of very solid evidence for kids from the spectrum of the
broad NSW community and when employment market/education participation is a
mantra- Darlo’s pre-school program, located on the school grounds, has provided
a great transition to school program for many years and an education program
for kids of parents who work or study.

We understand the changing demographics of the area, however Darlo has been a
beacon of Aboriginal education and as parents we’d really like to retain this.

So, our annual fete (a spooky Halloween one) will be held at the school (corner
of Golden Grove and Abercrombie Sts, Darlington) this Saturday. It would be
really helpful if as many community members as possible could turn up as a show
of support, eat a sausage on a roll/some scones/coconut ice, buy some raffle
tickets and most importantly, sign our
Darlington Pre-school Petition
to reverse the pre-school
funding situation that the School and Community Association intends to present
to the Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli.

In the changing place that is Redfern, Darlo plays a unique role. We need your
support to send the strong message that we want to retain it.

Cheers
