Mental Health is one of the most
mentioned problems in our area with crisis teams stretched and action often not
being taken until much damage to the sufferers and the community is done.
Police spend significant resources in dealing with mental callouts and in the
last resort transporting sufferers to psychiatric wards. Local residents deal
with people going off medication without support and in trying to help for
people in escalating situations.
REDWatch has invited Sydney
Local Area Health to come along and explain what mental health services are
available and what residents can do to get support in dealing with mental
health issues. We have also invited one of the St Vincent’ workers involved in
the Inner City Cadre Project to provide information about the CADRE
project which describes itself as Mental Health Neighbour Watch. It is hoped
that these discussion will help people better understand the services available
as well as highlight some of the issues that will need to be taken up in the
new Redfern Waterloo human service co-ordination group. Please join us for this
important discussion.
