Do you want to understand what drives developer decisions?
An Introduction to Property Economics
A short course delivered by Professor Peter Phibbs from Sydney University’s Urban Management and Planning Program, and Stewart Lawler a Development Consultant.
The session will cover:
- some basic economic concepts behind property economics.
- developer behaviour and motivations
- how developers interact with the planning system and the community.
Some of the questions covered include:
- Does increased density always help?
- Do developers make super profits?
- Why is extra density more useful sometimes than others?
- What is the difference between planning bonuses and development charges?
- What is the role of the landowner?
- When can the community be the most effective?
This is a 1.5 hours condensed session requested by REDWatch. It will also serve as a taster for a day long course that Peter Phibbs and Stewart Lawler will run for those interested in the topic in greater detail.
