The premises, used to produce programs such as Home and
Away and Seven’s publishing arm, Pacific Magazines, will take
up more than one-third of the 11-storey office tower.
The building will be owned by Sydney Broadcast Property – a
joint venture between the Seven Network and Rebel Property Group –
which will seek other tenants to turn the site into a campus-style
media hub.
The Premier, Morris Iemma, and the Planning Minister, Frank
Sartor, said 600 people – including 60 indigenous people – would
work on the development during construction, to begin later this
year, and 2000 people would be employed in the building once
completed.
The centre will be the first commercial building developed by
the private sector at Australian Technology Park, which is one of
the sites under the planning control of the Redfern-Waterloo
Authority.
The Seven Network will retain its studio and news centre at
Martin Place and its new corporate centre at Darling Harbour when
it moves its production centre from Epping to Redfern in 2009.
Sydney Broadcast Property, which also owns the Epping site, has
applied to Mr Sartor for planning approval to build about 650 units
on the site once the production centre is closed.
