Redfern NAB Volunteer Awards
scheme is been supported under a local partnership banner of Time 2 Act which
includes the local HCAP Community Worker, The Factory Community Centre, and
UNSW Community Development Project and is being sponsored by the City of Sydney Community Grants
Scheme. The Volunteer Awards will recognise the huge number of volunteers
working in the area that enrich their community through a huge range of
activities – the awards give local people a chance to nominate their unsung
hero.
Who will you nominate?
The 2007 Volunteer Awards has 10 categories:
Outstanding volunteer– Someone who has carried out
exceptional volunteer work within Redfern
Youth Support – An individual who supports Redfern’s youth
through the development, provision, and/or participation in youth programs and
activities
Health, Sports and recreation – Enhancing the quality of health
or promotes physical activity n Redfern; contributing to the management and/or
operations of a sports or recreation activity; demonstrating outstanding
dedication to Redfern’s sports and recreation community.
Long service – For long term commitment to volunteering
within Redfern
Family – Volunteer whose contribution has assisted
or impacted on family life as result of volunteering within Redfern
Caring – Enhances and promotes the community
through caring actions and outstanding acts of ‘humanitarianism’
Community Safety – contributes towards making Redfern a
safer place for residents of all ages.
Environment- Demonstrates an outstanding commitment to
the promotion and up keep of Redfern’s natural environment for present and
future generations.
Advocating – acts as champion for the collective residents
of Redfern and defends our rights.

make a tremendous difference to our community. We are recognising and
celebrating their participation and contribution. Volunteers enrich our lives
and our communities in so many ways and the range of activities is so varied. I
would urge people to vote for their favourite ‘unsung hero’ to ensure they are
recognised for the effort they put in to supporting the Redfern community.”
Entries must be submitted by, Friday
8th June 2007. The winners will receive their award and
be invited to attend a presentation awards ceremony and dinner at the Redfern
RSL.

What do
the Neighbourhood Advisory Boards do?
The Neighbourhood Advisory Board (NAB) are made up of elected tenant precinct
representatives, and both Government and Non-Government service providers who
work together to discuss and address issues and concerns occurring on the
Public Housing Estates. Service providers who participate on the NABs include:
The Department of Housing (DoH), Department of Community Services (DoCS), HCAP Community Development Worker, Factory Community Centre, Inner Sydney Regional
Council for Social Development (ISRCSD), South Sydney
City Council (SSCC),
South Sydney Community Aid, Redfern
Police, local Home and Community Care services and others. A NAB is established in both Redfern and in Waterloo
What is
HCAP?
Housing Communities Assistance Programme (HCAP) has
various programs across the state, is managed locally in Waterloo and Redfern by The Factory Community
Centre, and is funded by the Department of Housing NSW. HCAP program locally has an agenda of working
with local residents and agencies within a community development framework. We
work with various partner agencies from across sectors. The excellent partnership
is vital for our projects success and comes under our Time 2 Act Banner.
So what
does the service do locally?
- We promote
community participation - Work with others to improving the quality of
life for local residents - Provide support
and specialist advice to local community groups and help individuals start
new ones. - Represent housing tenants views
- Promote
interagency working
