The pair are said to have set their sights on the Australian Technology Park,
near the old Eveleigh railway workshops.
Cr Moore is amenable to the idea as long as it meets strict
planning criteria.
“Any proposal needs to take into account public
transport, residential impacts and the proximity to existing facilities,”
she said yesterday.
“More importantly, to alleviate concerns from residents
and make the facilities we do have viable, we need public transport like light
rail to Moore Park.”
LaPaglia, the star of Australian film Lantana, is a director
and shareholder of the A-League football team Sydney FC, while Crowe is the
co-owner of the South Sydney rugby league
club.
LaPaglia said on Saturday that he and Crowe had been in
talks since February about jointly funding a new 25,000-seat stadium.
“I want to be associated with people who are driven and
passionate about the game,” LaPaglia told AAP.
“[Crowe] is as driven and as passionate about the
Rabbitohs as I am about Sydney FC. And we both appreciate each other at that
level.
“[Crowe] wants a stadium, I want a stadium and we think
together there is a possibility we might be able to pull it off.
“We would combine forces to have a home field, and
training facilities.”
Sydney FC now hold training sessions at Parramatta Stadium
and play their home games at Aussie Stadium.
Souths play at Telstra Stadium and it is planned they will
train at a redeveloped Redfern Oval.
