For eight weeks, the two got hands-on experience in
carpentry, formwork, gyprock, plastering, plumbing, concreting and bricklaying.
The students also completed their general OH&S induction
card and a Senior First Aid Certificate.

Ready course in construction was established by Les Tobler of the Construction,
Forestry, Mining and Energy Union and Col Warn of Chullora TAFE.
“It’s great to see how this chance has given them a new
sense of responsibility and prospects for a good future working life,” career
adviser Divna Dokmanovic said.
Both students have the opportunity to go onto
apprenticeships, with the Macarthur Group Training Company, MG My Gateway,
looking for jobs in construction on behalf of the Redfern-Waterloo Authority.
After his experience in the course, Tyson Parker has chosen
a plastering apprenticeship.
