Burgmann Comes Out Swinging

Dr Burgmann criticised Lord Mayor Clover Moore for pursuing
grand ideas instead of the core council business of roads, rates and rubbish.

She described Redfern, Waterloo
and Woolloomooloo as “forgotten pockets”.

“We would see ourselves as being much more dedicated to
the socially and economically vulnerable in the City of Sydney,” Dr Burgmann said.

“There are pockets of economic hardship in the area and
we are very dedicated to looking after those people who have been left behind
by the more gentrified policies of Clover.”

She said Cr Moore’s team has focused on big-picture ideas
like the city’s 2030 plan, while neglecting the basics of council
responsibility.

“I think she has set a culture where the important
parts of local government, like rates, rubbish and parking, have been put very
much at the bottom of the pile,” she said.
