The Property Industry Foundation is leasing the property
from the City for an initial period of five years. It will pay no rent, but
will be responsible for works to the building in excess of $250,000 to make it
safe and habitable.
The Foundation will sub-lease the building to The
Salvation Army to run a residential program for young people at risk through
its Oasis Youth Support Network Program.
Oasis operates on the principle that intensive work
cannot be effectively undertaken with young people until they are off the
street and in a safe, stable environment. On any given night, Oasis helps to
accommodate and feed more than 100 homeless young people.
The Property Industry Foundation was formed in 1996 by
NSW property and construction industry leaders to mobilise the industry’s
resources to assist charitable organisations providing services to youth at
risk.
