The City of Sydney and local Police are hosting a series of Good Neighbourhood BBQs in your area. Come along and meet your neighbours and learn about what we are doing to improve your neighbourhood. The get togethers will feature Kidzzoo mobile animal farm, live music, children’s activities, a free BBQ and information on safety and security initiatives in your area.
In this half-day interactive workshop you will be provided with the tools to develop your own Cultural Intelligence and develop your ability to communicate and connect across cultures through practical, real-life examples. Cultural Intelligence is key to productive cross-cultural interactions, whether we are serving culturally diverse customers or working together in multicultural teams. It provides a framework for understanding culture at a deeper level and a method to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that support success in multicultural Australia.

You are invited to a presentation by Peter Tonkin (Strategy Author) & the RWA on the Eveleigh Heritage Interpretation Strategy (which is currently on exhibition). This will be followed by a REDWatch members meeting at 7.30 pm
In this one-day workshop you will learn skills for leading groups and events that elicit everyone’s participation and reach trustworthy and agreed results. The morning’s focus is on leading through asking good questions that enable you to get everyone on board and find common conclusions in the midst of valuable differences. In the afternoon you will experience and try out five clear steps for leading action oriented workshops, useful for small and large groups. The content of the course comes from you, the participants. The methods give you clear guidance for using them for different tasks and settings, such as one-on-one interactions, designing, planning and evaluating projects, with your own teams or other organisations.
Come along to a Sydney University information session on the two proposed Darlington Campus projects: the Abercrombie Precinct redevelopment (the University of Sydney Business School) and the Sports and Aquatic Centre expansion project.

In the absence of someone attending from the new Government REDWatch will screen the new film “Saving Erko Estate” which is a recent film about the successful 2002 campaign to save Erskineville Housing Estate from a similar re-development to that now planned for Redfern and Waterloo. The cover says “With footage filmed at the time and afterwards, the video shows how and why the fight was won, and why it is important to keep organised. This is a celebration of the victory, and an inspiration to others facing the same issues. It is better to die on your feet than live on bended knees – La Pasionaria”
One of the great things about Redfern and Waterloo is the active community and there is no better place to get a glimpse of it that than at the annual Volunteers Awards, now in its 5th year.

Hugo & Vine draws together some of Redfern’s diverse pool of music talent – professionals, students and keen amateurs – to share their songs and stories with local residents, community and each other.
The ceremony is being held to recognise the contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans have made to this country and the Organizing Committee encourages all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans and their families, the wider veteran community and the general public to take part in the ceremony.

At its July monthly meeting REDWatch is organising for Groundswell a presentation about the City of Sydney BEP2 Submission. This will be an opportunity to find out more about BEP2 and the City of Sydney Council's view of the proposal. There will also be an opportunity to find out about recent planning changes and ask questions.
Groundswell has decided to run some public screenings of “Saving Erko Estate” followed by discussions. These are designed to get people thinking about the plans to redevelop Redfern and Waterloo public housing and how they might respond. In the video tenants tell their stories about why they fought and how they saved their homes from a Housing NSW Redevelopment similar to that planned for Redfern and Waterloo.
There will be a special media event with prominent supporters of the controversial Aboriginal artist Gordon Syron at the Chapel by the Sea, Bondi Beach. This session be held at 6pm Friday 15th July with special guest former High Court judge the Hon Michael Kirby.

A community meeting with Sydney Uni to be held today at 9am has been postponed "until further notice, due to the investigations of the refinements of our proposal"
Inner Sydney Regional Council will be hosting the Our Future Community – The Challenge of Change conference on July 20th 2011. The conference will look at the challenges faced by the NGO sector as we move into the next decade.
The City of Sydney invites Redfern Housing NSW tenants to speak with Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP, Councillors, City of Sydney staff, Housing NSW, and representatives from Local Area Police Command.
