Would you like to participate in a storytelling and weaving artwork initiative for the national day for Adults Surviving Child Abuse (ASCA)? South Sydney Uniting Church in association with ASCA is planning a special presentation in addition to its usual November prayer service. We seek to facilitate members of the community coming together to help untangle the knot of child abuse. Come and weave blue ribbons into origami fish including any words or messages

This informal gathering is for all volunteers, community workers, reps and all those interested in Redfern Waterloo. It happens on the last Friday of the Month at the Alexandria Hotel at 1pm. It is a great way of having a good chat with someone or to speak-out about something. Its great fun, we can eat and drink.
CTV-1 was Australia’s first cable television station. It was located in the basement of the high rise McKell Building in Redfern and serviced residents of the area. The channel first hit the airwaves on 4 September 1987 and former cast and crew members will be reuniting on the stations 25th anniversary to remember this ground breaking institution.
This month's REDWatch Meeting will be a Roundtable on Place Management. We have invited some speakers to provide brief cameos about their experience of Place Management to help focus the discussion.

The REDWatch meeting on Thursday 4 October will a round table on Community Safety. It follows from last months Place Management roundtable and will focus on a collection of problems that place management could address in Redfern Waterloo. This topic has been chosen due to ongoing concerns in public housing about safety. The roundtable will be held at 6pm at the Factory Community Centre, 67 Raglan Street Waterloo. A poster is attached.

The State Government recently published a “discussion” paper for changes to planning controls across NSW. This will replace planning legislation that has long underpinned the State’s planning controls. If approved, the changes fast track economic development across the inner city and are likely to result in overdevelopment in your neighbourhood. While reform is needed, the changes have been condemned as pro-developer and remove the wider public from the process. Notably, even ICAC have raised concerns!

As part of its ongoing consultation with the local community, Sydney Local Health District will hold a community forum in October, to discuss public health issues and the needle and syringe program in Redfern. This meeting will discuss the proposal for a needle dispensing machine in front of the Redfern Health Centre.
