We will hear from the City of Sydney Planners as they discuss the City's vision for Waterloo South. This will be an opportunity for the general community to get an understanding of the proposal and to ask questions.

This is a round table workshop to look at connectivity around Redfern Station and North Eveleigh. REDWatch has prepared a paper setting out some of the identified issues for discussion. This workshop will also look at proposals drawn up for REDWatch to address some of these connectivity issues including a possible bridge from Carriageworks to South Eveleigh. We have invited key stakeholders to help us explore what is needed.

This meeting will include a presentation from Fiona Haigh about Health Equity – what it is and why is it important. Fiona Haig is the Director of the Health Equity Research and Development Unit (HERDU) – a joint initiative of Sydney Local Health District and the UNSW Medicine Faculty's Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity (CPHCE). Fiona has been involved in helping facilitate some of the early work of the Waterloo Collaborative that brings together government and non-government services to deliver improved outcomes for service users and the community in Waterloo.

Council has agreed to make a presentation about its plans for the Botany Road Corridor so that locals can get an early understanding of what is proposed. Some of the area impacted by these changes will be next to the Waterloo South redevelopment so we expect there to be some interest from public housing tenants as well as from local private landowners and renters.

The meeting will hear an online update by Peter John Cantrell from the City of Sydney on Council’s recent analysis of the proposal, including that the proposal is bigger than disclosed by DPE (see later in this update). There will also be an update of community responses and the emerging issues. A panel will try to encourage discussion, answer questions and suggest areas for submissions to cover.

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) will provide a briefing and answer questions on the Redfern North Eveleigh Paint Shop Precinct Planning Proposal for REDWatch on Monday 1st August 2022 at 6pm. Like all REDWatch meeting this meeting is open to all interested members of the community so it will be a good opportunity for those arround the North Eveleigh site to hear TfNSW present on their proposal for the North Eveleigh Paint Shop Precinct.

Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) will provide an update on the Waterloo Estate redevelopment including what the community can expect over the next couple of years as the logistics are put in place for the redevelopment. LAHC, in its submission has raised concerns about the exhibited proposal and we have asked LAHC to talk to those concerns also.

REDWatch has organised this public meeting, with the support of the local MP, Jenny Leong to provide a briefing on the North Eveleigh planning proposal. WE hope to be able to share people's insights in the first hour or so and then over a BBQ provide an opportunity for people to network and exchange ideas. The aim is to encourage people to understand the proposal and to make a submission.

Council is holding a public meeting on the just exhibited Central precinct so that TfNSW can present and the community can ask questions. A letter from Clover Moore says this meeting will inform Council’s response to the proposal.

At the 6 July REDWatch meeting the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) and the Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) will present an update on the rezoning process for the Explorer Street South Eveleigh public housing site. DPE is working to progress the rezoning of the Explorer Street and a concept masterplan with support from LAHC and the City of Sydney planners, who DPE have also invited to attend the REDWatch meeting.

The NSW Government has announced that the Waterloo South redevelopment will proceed with an increased quantity of social and affordable housing. At the same time work is underway to create a new Homes NSW agency and to overhaul a much criticised public housing maintenance system. The REDWatch meeting on Thursday 7th September at 6pm will provide an update on all these changes proposed by the new NSW Government.

The February REDWatch meeting will focus on an introduction to Homes NSW which comes into effect on 1st February 2024. Minister Rose Jackson will introduce the change and other staff from Homes NSW will also attend. The meeting starts at 6.30 pm sharp as the Minister can only attend from 6.30 to 7.00 pm. Other staff will participate in the meeting after the Minister leaves.
