The NSW government wants to force councils to allow more homes to be built around suburban centres, railway stations and tram stops. At this REDWatch meeting City of Sydney staff will respond to that plan and discuss how they prefer to plan for growth.
Homes NSW has issued a report, for feedback until end May. It contains 76 actions Homes NSW say address the People and Place issues of the Waterloo redevelopment. The plan covers work with tenants, agencies, the Aboriginal community, support for health and wellbeing, feeling safe and welcome, being green and clean and accessing quality education, learning and jobs.
On July 1 a new maintenance system starts for public housing. Some changes are immediate some will roll out over the next few months. Homes NSW will attend the REDWatch meeting on 4th July to explain the changes.
On Thursday 5th September at 6pm Homes NSW will discuss the future of the North Eveleigh Clothing Store Precinct. Homes NSW is taking over responsibility for the development of housing on this precinct to deliver around 500 homes, half of which would be social and affordable housing.
Bridge Housing will explain its development to the community for this Homes NSW site. Come along to find out how your suburb is about to change and bring your questions. The proposal is On Exhibition until 4th December. It proposes 355 social, affordable and disability homes, Bridge’s head office and a new community building (including PCYC). Building heights are 14, 10, 5 and 3 storeys.
REDWatch has had to move its April meeting forward a week so we can get the relevant people from Mirvac / John Holland to present on their new plans for the Waterloo Metro Over Station Development. These plans will increase overshadowing over the Waterloo Park to the east of the Metro.
Homes NSW and the Consortium partners are invited to update the community about their agreement and plans for Waterloo South. REDWatch has collected some of the questions looking for answers on our website. All welcome to bring your own questions.
The Tenant’s Union have been leading the push for these changes so come along to the REDWatch meeting on Thursday 3rd July to hear from the Tenants' Union NSW and learn more about these changes that impact both private and social housing tenants. Everyone welcome and bring your tenancy questions.
The above action group is open to all agencies and resident working on projects tackling the above issues. The next meeting will be focusing on a debriefing from the successful Solander Landscape project and planning for the future similar projects.
A speakout and concert is being organised to unite campaigns for Aboriginal rights in Australia.
You are invited to have your say about the City’s planned renewal of Charles Kernan Park. The project is in the early design phase and Council wants your input. Initial design ideas will be on display at the community meeting which you can discuss with City staff. Your suggestions and feedback will help us finalise the design.

On ANZAC Day 2008, a street march, ecumenical commemorative service at St Saviours Anglican Church and artist’s exhibition at the Damien Minton Gallery will again be held in Redfern.
