Social Impact Assessment - GHD

The SMDA have appointed GHD as consultants to undertake the Social Impact Assessment. The Social Impact Assessment will be building upon previous review work on community facilities, and appropriate scoping for social impact assessment.

This SMDA presentation provides some background to the SMDA and the studies they are undertaking. It was presented to REDWatch on 2 February 2012 in the lead up to a session focusing on one of the important SMDA studies for residents - the Social Impact Assessment. The file is 2MB PDF.

This is the May 2012 Report from GHD Pty Ltd on the Social Impact Scoping and Assessment Consultation Outcomes undertaken for the Sydney Metropolitian Development Authority (SMDA). This report was released in October 2014 by UrbanGrowth and is to be updated as part of the UrbanGrowth Central to Eveleigh “Social Sustainability Due Diligence Study” currently also being undertaken by GHD.

This is the Community Infrastructure and Social Issues Review - September 2015 report from UrbanGrowth NSW's Central to Eveleigh Urban Transformation and Transport Program. GHD have also been appointed to undertake the Social Sustainability report for the Waterloo SSP. This presentation explores what a Social Impact Assessment is and then explores the difficulties faced in doing a Social Impact Assessment over a long term project like that proposed in Redfern Waterloo. The presentation concludes with some suggestions of what this might mean for REDWatch and the Redfern Waterloo Social Impact Assessment. This is a copy of the presentation made by Dr Alison Ziller to a REDWatch Forum on 2 February 2012 it is a 659 Kb PDF File.

According to PIA's Position Statement in 2010 "Most planning practice has given less attention to social impact assessment than to environmental and economic impact assessment. Many impact assessments omit social issues altogether while others consider too narrow a range of issues." Below you will find the text of the PIA National Position Statement of 27 October 2010.
