Material thrown from the Rachel Forster Building in 2011 onto neighbouring properties was tested and shown to be brown asbestos as per the test results in this document. One of the major concerns of residents has been the lack of security on the Rachel Forster site and the public health impact of this activity. File is 97Kb PDF.
The documents below have been supplied for community access prior to the 16 June 2012 consultation. Please note these documents may change before final formal exhibition. The best place to start is Environmental Assessment (May 2012) as it gives an overview of the entire proposal. Supporting reports in the Appendix have not been made available. Some additional information has been made available and for easy of posting and viewing REDWatch has consolidated these into large files of related material - Montages, Plans, Elevations, Sections, Shadow Diagrams and Solar Access. These documents were supplied to REDWatch on 14 June 2012.
You are invited to attend the information drop-in session on Saturday 16 June 2012 between 10am and noon at Redfern Town Hall 73 Pitt Street, Redfern where the community are invited to drop in to meet with the project team to discuss any issues and provide feedback on the proposal.
The attached flyer was produced by some residents to publicise the Rachel Forster meeting and to alert people to what they believe to be a low quality development. It is being distributed in the area. File is 607KB PDF.
One of the major issues to emerge from the Rachel Forster meeting on 16 June 2012 was the ongoing lack of security on the site. Residents reported that people had often been seen in the abandoned building and it was still possible to access the site. Residents said that they had seen material such as copper being stolen from the building and other activity which had resulted in material including asbestos being thrown from the site. There was concern that as the redevelopment of the site was still some way off that this issue needed to be addressed to ensure these problems did not continue and that the chance of a fire on the site was minimised. The developer said he visited the site weekly and did drive-bys more frequently however local residents said much more needed to be done to secure the site. The facilitator from ABC Planning said the issue would be addressed.
Kaymet Corporation, the owners of the Rachel Forster Hospital site at 134-144 Pitt Street in Redfern, is holding two community drop-in sessions to provide information about a proposed modification to the current 2013 Project Approval.
